SEATTLE — The Seahawks are now 3-3 after beating the Cardinals 19-9 in an NFC West showdown. This is a better start than most people anticipated for the Seahawks with key player departures in the offseason and several new faces.
“I thought this was a rebuild for these guys,” Terry Hollimon said. “To be at this position right now at 3-3 and be tied for first place, it’s a miracle. It’s a Christmas miracle before Christmas.”
Despite significant issues in previous games, the defense played well, recovering two turnovers and sacking Kyler Murray six times.
“They had a game plan to really contain the Cardinals’ best player, which is Kyler Murray, their quarterback,” Hollimon said.
Rookie Tariq Woolen came up big again with his fourth interception in as many weeks, as well as a fumble recovery.
“He’s putting his name in the hat for Defensive Rookie of the Year I think,” Hollimon said. “He’s that good.”
Another rookie made a big impact on the offensive side of the ball. Kenneth Walker III rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown.
“He seems like he wants to score a touchdown every time he touches the ball,” Hollimon said. “He has that ability. He’s freaky fast. He’s shifty, and he’s very strong.”
With strong performances from key rookies and the defense, this was an important team win for the Seahawks.
“To come home and get a big win like this, it’s great to build that momentum and build that confidence, especially when you have so many young guys on defense.”
The Seahawks will play a 4-2 Chargers team on Sunday with big weapons on offense, like receiver Mike Williams and running back Austin Ekeler.
“The Seahawks are going to have the opportunity to put up some points,” Hollimon said. “Their defense isn’t that great. But then again, it’s the NFL. Anything can happen on any given Sunday.”
