Supporting your loved one with in-home care

In home-care lightens the load for family caregivers by helping with transportation, medication management and more. Sponsored by Serengeti Home Care.

SEATTLE — While family caregiving can be rewarding, it can also be challenging. There is no formal training for the expectations of family caregivers, so it can become overwhelming and lead to physical and emotional strain.

“Sometimes you have to stop and take care of yourself,” said Cindy Dedrick, general manager at Serengeti Care. “It’s not easy, but there are resources out there to get you there.”

Dedrick says it’s also important to be able to be a family member and not always be the caregiver.

“Because as a family member, you can see and do things differently than you can as a caregiver,” she said.

Community resources are available to provide assistance, like adult day programs through some senior centers and services like Meals on Wheels for food delivery. Trusted in-home care companies, like Serengeti Care, can also ease the burden of family caregiving.

“Serengeti Care can help with transportation, running errands, assisting with personal hygiene, medication assistance and even just companionship,” Dedrick said.

The Serengeti Care team aims to support your loved one, provide peace of mind and help prevent family caregiver burnout.

“If you’re just feeling like you can’t do enough to get everything done that needs to get done, that’s probably your first bet that there’s help that’s needed,” Dedrick said.
