Get the inside scoop on the Bellevue organization supporting local children

Safeway/Albertsons and Bellevue Lifespring give the students of the Bellevue School District a tour of their ice cream factory with a surprise. Sponsored by Safeway.

SEATTLE — What's better than a tour of an ice cream factory?

These kids from the Bellevue School District are about to find out. They're suiting up in hairnets and coveralls to go on an exclusive tour of the Safeway Ice Cream Factory.

This Willy-Woka style adventure is happening thanks to a partnership between Safeway/Albertsons and Bellevue Lifespring

"Bellevue LifeSpring's mission is to foster stability and self sufficiency for Bellevue children. And their families," said Kris Howard from Bellevue LifeSpring.

That mission can mean anything from feeding families - one in four children in Bellevue are at risk for hunger - to providing fun experiences like this tour.

"It has a huge impact when you get the opportunity to sort of have these special opportunities or these special behind the scenes moments. You remember them," Howard said.

Someone is waiting behind the scenes to make this extra memorable:

The kids think the tour is over, when the special guest is revealed...Blitz handing out tubs of ice cream.

And the fun is still not over.

There is a very special extra surprises surprise visitor who will be joining the kids that they have no idea about.

This tour ends with tasting ice cream just like the pros do - scooping it straight from the container. They're also some of the very first people to try the new "Seahawks Ice Cream" - it tastes like mint, not Blitz.

Then, the kids get brand new Nikes from "Blitz Kicks 4 Kids" - and swag bags with $50 grocery gift cards to take home to their families.

"Gift cards really just allow families personal choice," Howard said.

This troop of new ice cream testers will also go home with a tasty memory they'll never forget.
