Western Governors University's Elevate Awards celebrates local opportunity makers

From Northwest people to businesses, these awards pay tribute to those paving the way for others. Sponsored by Western Governors University.

SEATTLE — Western Governors University's School of Business, is a non-profit online university dedicated to expanding access to education to working adults who want to advance their career. They call it "Education at the speed of business."

Tonight, they honored Northwest people and businesses creating pathways to opportunity.

People like WGU grad, Sara Reeves who now helps fellow employees at BECU expand their knowledge and skill.

"I grew up from nothing and there have been quite a few people who have helped me along the way," said Reeves. "I have a heart for humans and just want them to be the best version of themselves. So, however I can support that, I want to. WGU has given me something no one can take away, which is really rad and I want to give that to other people."

Reeves is in some heavy-hitting company. Other winners? Amazon, for their Career Choice Program, giving tuition assistance to hourly employees.

T-Mobile also got a nod for supporting WGU's "Online Access Scholarships." Together they've given 33,000 students internet access and other technology.
