SEATTLE -- On July 19, 1994, the Kingdome was closed after four ceiling tiles fell nearly 180 feet into the stands behind home plate.
The Seattle Mariners were forced into a 22-day road trip before the season was cut short by the players' strike.
Work to shore up the ceiling ultimately cost $51 million, but the repair job came with an even bigger price. A crane accident inside the Kingdome on Aug. 17, 1994 killed 32-year-old William Louth of Portland and 39-year-old Jorge Turincio of San Diego.
The two were working for a Portland painting and sandblasting company at the time.
The Kingdome reopened Nov. 4, 1994 in time for a Seattle Seahawks vs. Cincinnati Bengals game.
