BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Spokane native Anton Watson was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 54th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Watson earned First Team All-WCC honors in his fifth year at Gonzaga in the 2023-23 season after leading the conference with 1.7 steals per game. He is second all-time at Gonzaga with 211 career steals. Watson averaged 14.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in a season that led to a sweet 16 appearance for the Bulldogs.
Watson was a WCC Honorable Mention Selection in his senior year in 2022-23 after averaging 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
It appears Watson's ankle injury during the G-League Elite Camp that held him out of two scrimmages in front of NBA front offices didn't hurt his chances at being drafted. He was able to participate in private workouts for a handful of NBA teams.
