Federal Way used a furious third quarter to beat Kentwood 66-54 and win back-to-back 4A state championships.

"We just had a target on our back, because we haven't lost a game all season," said Federal Way forward Jalen McDaniels. "We just know that the pressure comes with this, so coaches tell us, just settle down and play our game."

Federal Way (29-0) beat Davis last year for the crown.

Kentwood (22-7) controlled the pace during the first half, behind Rayvaughn Bolton. The junior poured in 14 of his team-high 18 points in the first two quarters to help Kentwood build out a 29-25 advantage.

Federal Way didn't take its first lead until 2:46 was left in the third quarter when the Eagles went on a 14-0 run. The Eagles had struggled to keep tempo for most of the game, but a few key transitional buckets, highlighted by a D'Jimon Jones dunk off the steal, gave control back to Federal Way.

"They feed off transition," said Kentwood head coach Blake Solomon. "They feed off their crowd. We just took a couple of contested shots, which led to long shots that started their break form, and that was really the difference."

Federal Way's Christian Jones, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, scored six points during the run.

Kentwood also had a tough time containing guard Ferron Flavors, who poured in a game-high 20 points and was 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

"He came to this tournament and showed what kind of a shooter he is," said Collins. "That's a toughness he has, and he wanted the ball in crunch time."

Solomon said he was proud of his team's season, especially since the only games the Conks lost this season were to teams ranked in the top five in the state.

"We needed to hold on, and unfortunately we couldn't do it," Solomon said.

Darius LuBom added 14 points for Kentwood.
