The second oldest rivalry in the state, Auburn and Kent-Meridian have been duking it out since 1908. However, the trophy wasn't introduced until 1929 when Dr. Owen Taylor donated it to the teams.
The longest rivalry in the state is between Aberdeen and Hoquiam, which began in 1905.
Kent-Meridian now competes in SPSL North 4A, and Auburn competes in SPSL 3A, but Kent School District Athletic Director Dave Lutes said the two teams make an effort to schedule a rivalry game each year.
Auburn is leading the rivalry 50-49, with six ties. Last year, Kent-Meridian broke Auburn's 15 year winning streak with a 42-39 overtime win.
