TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Okanogan scored 17 points in the first half and held off Napavine for a 17-14 victory in the Class 2B high school football championship game on Friday at the Tacoma Dome.
Napavine quarterback Wyatt Stanley threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Mac Fagerness to cut the score to 17-14 with 3:06 left in the game but the Tigers didn't come close to scoring again. Stanley completed 15 of 29 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown.
Napavine (12-1) lost three fumbles and threw two interceptions. The Tigers also missed field goal attempts of 31, 22 and 26 yards.
Okanogan quarterback Benny Cate completed 2 of 4 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns to help give the Bulldogs (14-1) a 17-0 halftime lead.
Cate hit Jimmy Townsend for a 61-yard score, hauling in a tipped ball after a near interception. Jalen Moses caught the second completion by Cate but fumbled the ball near the end zone before teammate Payton Staggs recovered it for a touchdown on the 82-yard play.
