SPOKANE, Wash. — Michael Ajayi put Gonzaga fans at ease today as he withdrew his name from the NBA Draft to enroll at Gonzaga.
The reigning WCC scoring leader will play for the Zags this upcoming season. With Ajayi's addition, there is just one remaining scholarship available for Mark Few this season and it may be going to Senegalese big man Ismaila Diagne.
Ajayi nearly averaged a double double in his one season in Malibu as he averaged 17.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for Pepperdine last season en route to All-WCC honors.
The 6'7" Ajayi transferred to Pepperdine after a season at Pierce College in Puyallup where he averaged a double double with 20.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
Ajayi was a late bloomer, playing just one year of varsity basketball at Kentwood High School where he averaged 10.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
With the addition of Ajayi, the Zags now have an embarrassment of riches at the wing position with Ajayi, Steele Venters, Dusty Stromerand Jun Seok Yeo.
Ajayi figures to slide into the starting lineup in Anton Watson's place alongside Gonzaga's four returning starters from this year's Sweet Sixteen squad.
