2023 MLB All-Star in Seattle

SEATTLE — The 2023 MLB All-Star Week will be coming to Seattle in July, making the Emerald City the temporary center of the baseball world.

From July 7-11, Seattle will be hosting a variety of free and paid events centered around celebrating the game of baseball and softball.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is returning to Seattle for the third time in the city's history. The first time the city hosted the game was in 1979, and the second was back in 2001.

Volunteers clean up neighborhoods around T-Mobile Park ahead of MLB All-Star Week

In May, nearly 4,000 volunteers came out to help clean up neighborhoods in Seattle, including the area around T-Mobile Park. It is just one of the many efforts to get the city ready to be in the spotlight.

"People are realizing how close it is, and how great that week is going to be,” said Lisa Howard, Executive Director of Alliance for Pioneer Square.

Mariners, MLB announce 2023 All-Star Legacy Initiative for impact on Seattle

MLB, the Seattle Mariners and the Mariners Care Foundation announced the 2023 All-Star Legacy Initiative, which seeks to invest money annually in the host city of the Midsummer Classic.

The joint effort will contribute more than $2 million toward four projects to address equity gaps in order to expand access to youth baseball and softball and support the needs of underserved community college students to help them complete their college programs.

How Seattle officials plan to keep 2023 MLB All-Star Week safe, secure

For the dozens of law enforcement agencies at the local and federal level tasked with keeping fans safe during 2023 MLB All-Star Week in Seattle, preparations start well before first pitch on July 11.

One of these agencies, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), put together a public service announcement reminding the public to keep anything that flies out of the air during the festivities.

How to experience PLAY BALL PARK during All-Star Week in Seattle

If you're looking to participate in Major League Baseball's (MLB) All-Star Week festivities in Seattle, Capital One PLAY BALL PARK will be the most accessible of all the events. 

Located just across the street from T-Mobile Park next to Lumen Field, PLAY BALL PARK features a variety of attractions and events for fans of all ages.

PLAY BALL PARK will be open Saturday, July 8-Tuesday, July 11. The park is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

MLB celebrates the legacy of Japanese American baseball with new exhibit

For the first time, Major League Baseball (MLB) will feature an exhibit during All-Star Week showcasing the Japanese American baseball experience.

"I remember going down the hallway looking at this photo thinking, 'Man how many kids can say their Uncle Johnny was on Lou Gehrig's team and beat Babe Ruth 13-3?'," said Kerry Yo Nakagawa, the project director of Nisei Baseball Research Project.

Mariners opening rideshare lot at T-Mobile Park ahead of All-Star Week

The Seattle Mariners introduced a new community resource Monday that they hope will ease parking concerns and boost safety. 

A new rideshare lot will open ahead of All-Star Week and serve as a permanent feature across from T-Mobile Park on Third Avenue between Holgate Street and Royal Brougham Way near the bustling Amtrak railways. The lot officially opens July 8.

Washington National Guard team will be part of 2023 MLB All-Star Game activities in Seattle

A Washington National Guard team will be part of Major League Baseball’s 2023 All-Star festivities in Seattle on July 11.

Members of the guard’s 10th Civil Support Team will not be taking the field, but they will be assisting local agencies to help keep the game, and events leading up to it, safe.

Mariners unveil special menu options for All-Star Week

Fans headed to T-Mobile Park for All-Star Week can feast on a variety of special menu items that the ballpark is rolling out for the festivities.

Catie Griggs, the Seattle Mariners president of business operations, said All-Star Week was about highlighting “the best of the Pacific Northwest.” The special food options feature dishes from local restaurants and eateries and classic Pacific Northwest fare, like wild Alaskan salmon, crab, blackberries and beer.

Make-A-Wish recipient runs the bases ahead of sold-out All-Star Game

Perhaps the biggest home run of the MLB All-Star Game happened before the game even started.  

Kids from across the U.S. were granted trips to fly into Seattle for All-Star Week and one local boy took to the field to kick off the All-Star Game. Brayden Friberg, 8, had a hard time deciding on his wish but his love of baseball and passion for the Mariners made things a bit easier.

National League snaps All-Star Game losing streak, tops AL 3-2 behind Elias Díaz homer

Elias Díaz hit a two-run homer off Félix Bautista in the eighth inning, and the National League snapped a nine-game losing streak in the All-Star Game with a 3-2 win over the American League on Tuesday night.

The NL won for the first time since an 8-0 victory in 2012 in Kansas City thanks to Díaz, a catcher who became the first Rockies player to win the All-Star MVP award.

"This means a lot to me, to my family," he said. "Being in the ASG for me is amazing."

Visitors say they are excited to visit Seattle again after MLB All-Star Week experience

Crowds cheered as 600 lighted drones created awe-inspiring images in the sky Sunday night during a free 18-minute show above the Seattle Center by the Space Needle. Attendees of the MLB All-Star Experience applauded the baseball-themed visuals and iconic Seattle imagery.

The drones, belonging to Texas-based company Sky Elements, hovered up to 400 feet above the ground, creating formations to the tunes of classic baseball music.

With roughly 150,000 tourists estimated to be in town for MLB All-Star Week, KING 5 caught up with visitors to hear how their experiences have been, despite recent shootings and other concerning trends in the area.
