Players to Watch 2024 roster
The Mariners' starting lineup will be mostly static from the 2023 season, with a few key additions in the middle of the lineup. Jorge Polanco is expected to be the Mariners' second basemen after coming over from the Minnesota Twins in an offseason trade. Polanco has missed at least 50 games in each of the past two seasons but was among the top hitters in Spring Training down in Arizona.
Mitch Garver is the other new face of the lineup and is expected to serve as the designated hitter in most games. Garver won a championship with the Texas Rangers last season and hit .270 with 19 home runs and 50 runs batted in (RBI) over 87 regular-season games.
Returning stars like Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford will be counted on to lift the Mariners back into the postseason.
The Mariners' pitching staff should be among the best in MLB, with Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller and Emerson Hancock making up the starting rotation. Miller and Hancock showed flashes of brilliance after making their debuts in 2023, while the 26-year-old Kirby looks to build on an All-Star campaign in 2023. Bryan Woo was set to be the fifth starter after a promising rookie season but will begin 2024 on the injured list.
Redmond-born Austin Voth and former Houston Astro Ryne Stanek are among the new additions to the Mariners' bullpen, and fan favorite Andres Munoz will be back.
