PEORIA, Ariz. — After a few years on the other side of the country, Mariners pitcher Austin Voth has returned to the Pacific Northwest.
Voth was first selected back in the 2013 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. He spent the last two years playing for the Baltimore Orioles. In 2023, Voth posted a 4.94 ERA across 23 appearances for Baltimore. Now, the Northwest native says he is thrilled to be playing for the Seattle Mariners.
"You know honestly, I mean, I never thought this would be possible. It was always growing up as a kid, one of my dreams to you know, play for the Mariners and you know, it means a great deal to me to be able to put this jersey on," Voth said.
In 2010, Voth helped lead Covington's Kentwood High School to a state title.
"That was unreal, just being in high school and being able to play Safeco Field (T-Mobile Park) and dogpiling on the mound at the very end of the game. That was that was such an incredible experience for me," says Voth.
After Kentwood, Voth would stay local and pitch for the University of Washington. Now, he's excited to be heading back to Seattle and to be part of this Mariners bullpen.
"They are electric you know, the stuff that they have is truly electric and just to be part of that group, you know, that's special to me," says Voth.
Voth played for a talented Baltimore team last season, and he says this Mariners team has everything you need to make a run.
"You know if we do the things that we're supposed to do, we're going to win games, so just getting in playoffs is the key. And I think, you know, once we get to the playoffs, we could run away with it," says Voth.
Voth will most likely work out of the bullpen, but he has been a starter. He's started 39 games during his career and has a 15-14 record in those games.
