SEATTLE — The countdown to Opening Day is on!
In four days, the Seattle Mariners will take the field at T-Mobile Park, facing the Boston Red Sox for Opening Day.
"When we don't have baseball, I'm sad,” said Espie Ortega, a lifelong Mariners fan. “Literally counting the days for the season opener."
Fans are already getting excited, with thousands of fans flooding T-Mobile Park on Sunday as part of the team's "Opening Week Warm-Up."
"The beginning of a new season and of course being optimistic that we're going to go all the way through and win it all," Ortega said. "It's indescribable, I can't put it into words."
There may not be words but there is excitement that can be seen and heard filling T-Mobile Park once again. There were several activities at the ballpark on Sunday as the Mariners hosted the "Opening Week Warm-Up."
Mariners fans had behind-the-scenes access, including a chance to hear from rising stars and Mariners legends, like Edgar Martinez.
“It's great to see all the fans, very excited about this year,” Martinez said. “The team looks really good, I'm very encouraged by the new players that came, so I can see why the people are very excited about this year."
The Hall of Famer has been part of some of the franchise's best teams and is the man behind the Mariners' most iconic moment. He believes this year’s team can bring playoff baseball back to the Emerald City.
"The energy was amazing," Martinez said. "It's one of the one of the best stadiums to watch baseball and the fans are incredible when the team is in the playoffs. It reminds me of the 1990's."
