SEATTLE — Good news has arrived for Comcast Xfinity customers who are also fans of the University of Washington.

Big Ten Network (BTN) will now be available to Xfinity customers during UW athletic events, Comcast confirmed to KING 5 on Thursday.

"We’re pleased the Big Ten Network will be available to Xfinity TV customers who subscribe to the Popular TV package in Oregon, Washington, and California in time for the action this weekend," Comcast said in a statement.

UW fans were unable to watch the first two football games of the season locally if they had Comcast, even if they had paid to subscribe to the package that included Big Ten Network. This was due to a dispute between Comcast and BTN, as the Seattle area was considered outside of the network's territory prior to UW joining the Midwest-based conference.

Once UW, the University of Oregon, the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) joined the Big Ten, the conference's territory expanded significantly to the West Coast. BTN told KING 5 in a statement in August that Comcast Xfinity is the only one of its distribution partners that did not expand along with the network. UW events on BTN could be seen on any other carrier that offers the conference's network.

Outside of UW football, many other Husky sporting events are expected to be broadcast on BTN during the 2024-25 academic year.

No other Husky football games are currently slated to air on BTN, but that could change as broadcast channels and games often aren't released until a few weeks before the event.
