SEATTLE — The University of Washington (UW) men's basketball team has secured the commitment of one of the most highly-coveted transfer prospects in the sport at a reported steep price.
Great Osobor, who played for new UW coach Danny Sprinkle last season at Utah State University, announced his intention to play for the Huskies next season on Monday morning in a social media post.
ESPN reported that Osobor will earn $2 million in name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation, per documents the media outlet reviewed. It gives Osobor the "highest-known valuation in college basketball this season," ESPN's Jonathon Givony reported Monday.
It was not made clear whether that is a per-year amount or the total value of the contract, but it represents a massive investment from UW in Osobor's services.
During his most recent season at Utah State, Osobor averaged 17.7 points and nine rebounds while earning the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year award.
Originally born in England, Osobor first came to the U.S. to play for Sprinkle when he was at Montana State University. Osobor has now followed Sprinkle to two different schools.
"It's a blessing to be put in the position I am in now, and I look forward to using my platform to proudly represent my family and be a role model to my two younger sisters," Osobor told ESPN.
UW basketball is entering a new era as it prepares to compete in the Big Ten Conference beginning in 2024-25. The school is working on developing a brand-new practice facility and performance center for the basketball program.
