The University of Washington unveiled a statue Friday honoring legendary Huskies head football coach Don James.
James, who led the Washington football team from 1975 to 1993, led the Huskies to six Rose Bowl appearances and four victories. He was known as the "Dawgfather" of UW football. He passed away in 2013 at age 80.
The statue of James was unveiled during a dedication ceremony at Husky Stadium with UW athletic officials, Husky Hall of Famer Warren Moon, and former coach Gary Pinkel. Sculpted by artist Lou Cella, the statue stands 8'6" tall and depicts James in a posture familiar to many longtime Huskies fans: determined, with arms crossed and wearing his signature purple gold "W."
The statue was funded by Coach James' former players, fellow coaches, family, and friends.
