Anne McCoy named new WSU Athletic Director, first woman to hold position

McCoy has served in various roles at WSU since 2001, including senior deputy director of athletics and senior woman administrator.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Anne McCoy has been named the new Director of Athletics at Washington State University, effective immediately. McCoy is the 15th athletic director for WSU and the first woman to hold the position.

McCoy was named the interim athletic director in March after Pat Chun left to become the athletic director at the University of Washington.

WSU President Kirk Schulz praised McCoy's experience, leadership and commitment to WSU.

"Anne's experience within college athletics, her reputation among her peers, and most importantly, her passion and commitment to WSU, make her the perfect fit to move Cougar Athletics forward as our next director of athletics," Schulz said. "Her accomplishments over the past months, and throughout her more than two decades as a college administrator, reflect on her leadership, vision, and ability to unite Coug Nation. We are fortunate to have Anne leading Cougar Athletics."

McCoy has served in various roles at WSU since 2001, including senior deputy director of athletics and senior woman administrator.

As interim director, McCoy has:

  • Hired Head Coaches David Riley (Men's Basketball), Russ Whitaker (Swimming) and Kevin Tucker (Women's Golf).
  • Extended the contract of Women's Head Basketball Coach Kamie Ethridge.
  • Secured affiliate membership with the Mountain West Conference for baseball and women's swimming.
  • Played a role in securing a media rights agreement with the CW Network and FOX for the 2024 football season.
