Watch out NFL, DK Metcalf has a new diet. He's no longer eating 3 bags of candy a day

Last year Metcalf said he would down one coffee and eat one full meal each day. Along with three bags of candy.

SEATTLE — Watch out National Football League (NFL), because Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has a new diet this year.

Last year Metcalf told Kevin Garnett what he would eat in a day. The revelation shook many sports fans at the time because it's a diet you would not expect from an athlete who reached the pinnacle of his sport.

Metcalf would down one coffee and eat one full meal, he told Garnett. Along with three bags of candy each day.

Even with a diet pared down in nutrition (let's call it unconventional?), Metcalf has been one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL since he was drafted in 2019. The 26-year-old has posted three 1,000-yard seasons, leading the Seahawks in receiving in three of his six seasons.

The All-Pro has been durable, too. He's played in 82 of a possible 83 games during his six-year Seahawks career, all while enjoying food nutritionists would not advise for professional athletes.

But now the 6-foot-4, 235-pound receiver is changing his diet - just a tad.

“I eat twice a day now," Metcalf said. "I’ve slowed down on the coffee and candy.”

Perhaps Metcalf owes his new and improved diet to discourse from parents, who were concerned about their kids emulating the All-Pro receiver by embracing his unconventional eating habits.

His message before the 2024 season: Don't try this at home kids.

“A lot of parents saying, ‘You’re messing with my kid's diet. My kid thinks he can eat candy all day,'" Metcalf said. "I apologize to all of the parents that I messed up their kid's diet. That was just something I did.”

But if you are expecting Metcalf to completely quit candy cold turkey...that would be premature.

"They (Seahawks) can't tell me what to do like that," Metcalf said. "I'm still going to do what makes me happy. I know myself better than anybody else."

Now imagine how good Metcalf could be in 2024 with just a little bit less candy in his diet.
