SEATTLE – Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been fined $11,050 by the NFL for grabbing his crotch while leaping into the end zone last Sunday at the end of his epic touchdown run.
Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, first reported the unsportsmanlike conduct fine. It was later confirmed by NFL.com.
The 79-yard run was the longest of Lynch's career. Lynch broke tackles along the sideline, then sprinted away from the Arizona Cardinals' defenders. When he reached the goal line, Lynch jumped in the air, turned to face the rest of the players and grabbed his crotch before landing on his back in the end zone. Lynch was not flagged for the move.
Lynch made the same gesture in the January 2011 playoff game against the New Orleans Saints at the end of his famous "BeastQuake" run.
Pro Football Talk reports the NFL fined New England Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan $10,000 for doing the same thing last season.
The Seahawks defeated the Cardinals 35-6. Lynch had 10 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns after missing the first quarter with what the team reported as an upset stomach.
Lynch is no stranger to fines by the NFL. The league fined him $100,000 earlier this year for not making himself available to the media after games, which is a requirement for all players in the league.
