RENTON, Wash. — Seahawks players gave high marks to ousted head coach Pete Carroll but took issue with the organization's training staff in the 2024 edition of the National Football League Players' Association's (NFLPA) annual survey.
The NFLPA began conducting an annual survey of players in 2023, hoping to highlight organizational practices that were resonating positively with players as well as areas for improvement with each team around the league.
Overall, the Seahawks ranked 14th out of 32 teams in the 11 categories surveyed. This is down slightly from last season when the Seahawks ranked 11th.
Pete Carroll was let go from his responsibilities as head coach in January but received an "A" grade from Seahawks players overall. The NFLPA's overview said 87% of players felt like Carroll was "efficient with their time," and players felt Carroll was "very willing to listen" to the collective locker room.
The Seahawks ranked in the top 10 organizations for food offerings in the cafeteria, nutrition, and the size of the locker room.
One area the players' union highlighted for improvement is the "lack of staffing and resources provided in the training room."
Only 71% of players felt the team had enough full-time physical therapists, which ranked 26th out of 32 NFL teams.
"There are not enough quality trainers, limiting the players’ ability for one-on-one treatment for injury recovery and prevention," the NFLPA said in its summary of the Seahawks' results. Players also said the team's hot and cold tub space for recovery should be updated.
Another notable takeaway was the Seahawks being given a "C" grade for the treatment of families. The NFLPA said the Seahawks are one of 12 teams that do not provide a family room during games, a perk many professional teams offer to give loved ones of players a private space to be with young children while games are going on. The team does provide gameday daycare, according to the NFLPA.
Players gave team owner Jody Allen a "C+" when it came specifically to her willingness to invest in the facilities. The Seahawks ranked 23rd out of 32 NFL teams in this category.
Besides the head coach category, the only other grade to get an "A" or "A-" was the organization's strength coaches. 98% of players said they feel like they get a plan catered individually to them, and players credited the strength staff with significantly contributing to their success.
