Seahawks rookie running back Rashaad Penny has been ruled out of the Week 15 contest against the 49ers with a knee injury. Penny won’t travel with the team to San Francisco this weekend.
“He came out of the game last week with a sore knee and it didn’t respond quickly enough to get back for this week, so we’re going to leave him so he can get treated over the weekend,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday.
Although he didn’t reveal the exact nature of Penny’s injury, Carroll attempted to clarify the situation . . . somewhat.
“He’s just going to have some stuff done,” Carroll explained. “He was going to work over the weekend and see if the rehab is effective. He feels pretty good, but he just couldn’t get going this week. The rest over the weekend and the stuff that they’re doing will show us something, probably by Tuesday.
“By the time we get to practice on Wednesday, we will have a better feel.”
Penny has already undergone an MRI to determine no structural damage and as of now, will not require surgery. Carroll said the injury is not related to Penny’s ankle issue from last week.
Expect a heavier dose of running back J.D. McKissic with Penny out and hopefully, on the mend.
