Seahawks 53-man roster: Here is who made the initial group out of training camp

The Seahawks cut the roster down from 90 to 53 on Tuesday as training camp nears its conclusion.

RENTON, Wash — A lot of quality football players got a tough phone call on Tuesday, as National Football League (NFL) teams had to trim rosters down from 90 to 53 to set initial rosters as training camps wrap up.

The Seahawks didn't deliver many surprises with its first 53-man roster, though there still could be some roster movement before Seattle's season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 8. While this is the initial roster, there almost certainly will be plenty of movement

Here is the full list of the Seahawks' 53 active players coming out of training camp, as well as all the names that were let go by the team.

Who did the Seahawks cut?

When a player accrues at least four years of NFL experience, they become what is known as a vested veteran. That keeps a player from going on waivers where they can be claimed by any team, and instead allows that player to immediately become a free agent and go somewhere of their choosing. These four players who fit that description were released on Tuesday.

  • S Marquise Blair
  • CB Artie Burns
  • LB Blake Lynch
  • QB PJ Walker

If a player is injured and a team chooses to waive them, they are given an injury designation. The only difference between this and the waived players above is that if the player is not claimed by another NFL team, he will be returned to his original team's injured reserve list. Former University of Washington tight end Jack Westover was the lone player waived with an injury designation on Tuesday.

The Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list is for players who are injured and will not be ready for Week 1. Players on this list coming out of training camp must sit out the first four games of the season, but do not count towards the team's active roster. These three players were added to that list on Tuesday.

  • T Abraham Lucas
  • S Jerrick Reed II
  • NT Cameron Young
