SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday they released Pro Bowl safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, along with tight end Will Dissly, opening up over $30 million in cap space.
The Seahawks announced the release on X, formerly known as Twitter, and thanked the players individually.
NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero said in a post on X Tuesday morning the releases will free about $34.5 million in cash and cap space, as Seattle retools its team in the first year of the Mike Macdonald era.
Adams was set to make a nonguaranteed $16.5 million in 2024 but would have counted for nearly $27 million against the salary cap. After the Seahawks sent two first-round picks to acquire Adams from the New York Jets in 2020, the three-time Pro Bowler missed 33 of a possible 67 games during his four-year Seahawks tenure. Adams had 9.5 sacks in his first season but failed to record a sack in his final three years with the Seahawks.
At the time, the Seahawks gave Adams a four-year, $70 million extension, making him the NFL's highest-paid safety. Several injuries maligned Adams' tenure, as he struggled to return to his All-Pro form in New York.
The Seahawks traded for Diggs from the Detroit Lions in 2019, before acquiring Adams. Diggs made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2020-22, with 18 interceptions. But the Seahawks elected to move on from the 31-year-old in favor of other options in free agency or the draft.
Dissly has been a longtime Seahawk since he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 National Football League (NFL) Draft. In six seasons with Seattle, Dissly totaled 1,421 reception yards, 127 receptions and 13 touchdowns as a tertiary passing option. Dissly also played his college football at the University of Washington.
The NFL's free agency period will begin on March 13.
