Here are three takeaways from the Seahawks' 28-16 loss to the 49ers

Seattle has lost four straight games for the first time in 14 seasons under Pete Carroll.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The once-promising Seahawks season is slipping away.

The Seattle Seahawks had a chance to even the season series against its division rival, but the San Fransico 49ers pulled away for a 28-16 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The 6-7 Seahawks haven't won a game since Nov. 12.

Here are three takeaways from the Seahawks' loss.

Not again

The 49ers are playing like the most dominant team in the National Football League (NFL) right now.

The Seahawks were (slightly) better in its second matchup against San Francisco in the sense that the game was still competitive for three quarters.

But it still wasn't particularly close, as the 49ers gashed the Seahawks defense for over 500 yards of offense and several explosive plays.

It's not a shame to lose to this team twice, because most NFL teams don't stand a chance against this freight train, but it is dispiriting to see the gap between the two rivals to be this large.

What a playcall

You won't see many more creative plays than what the Seahawks drew up to score a touchdown this Sunday.

To start the play, the Seahawks had running back Kenneth Walker and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba lined up in the backfield. As the ball is snapped, Smith-Njigba flares behind the quarterback for what looks like a wide receiver screen but Lock fakes the pass. Instead, Lock looks for Walker for what looks like a running back screen but he fakes the pass.

The two decoy actions stretched the 49ers defense to both sidelines, exposing the middle of the field. While the play was happening, tight end Colby Parkinson made a quick block on a defensive lineman and leaked out for a pass. There were no defenders in sight, Lock found his intended target, and Parkinson completed a 25-yard touchdown.

But words don't do this play justice. Just watch the clip below to see the fun layers that made this awesome play possible.

Seahawks fail another test against possible NFC playoff team

A month ago, the five-week stretch that included matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers (twice), Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles looked like a difficult gauntlet.

The hope was that the Seahawks would win a game or maybe two in this stretch. A 6-3 start to the season gave Seattle some margin for error too.

But now the Seahawks have lost four consecutive games and head into a Monday night matchup against the Eagles, currently the No. 1 seed in the conference.

These results don't inspire confidence for the Seahawks if they make the postseason.
