Three takeaways from the Seahawks’ win against Cleveland Browns in final preseason game

It was a grand finale for the Seahawks' preseason run.

SEATTLE — Home at last.

The Seattle Seahawks faced the Cleveland Browns Saturday night on home turf.

Seattle’s loyal fans flocked to Lumen Field on a dreary and cool Saturday to watch the team’s third and final preseason game. The Seahawks won 37-33 over the Browns.

Cleveland lost both of their preseason games to the Packers and the Vikings, whereas the Seahawks entered Saturday with one win over the Chargers and one loss to Tennessee.

The game marked the last chance for rookies to impress coaches before the cut to 53 is made.

Here are three takeaways from the Seahawks-Browns matchup:

Starters take the field

Quarterback Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense were quick to put on a show for Seattle.

In this first quarter, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a 25-yard pass from Geno Smith.

Shortly after, wide receiver DK Metcalf made the Hawks’ first touchdown, with a 21-yard pass from Smith, with an explosive play designed by offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. The extra point was good.

“It was good to be back home,” Smith said of the touchdown. Looking forward to the regular season, he added that “we got the right players.”

Running back Kenny McIntosh, in the first official rush of the game, stiff-armed his way to a 56-yard touchdown. The most impressive feat of kicker Jason Myers was a 58-yard field goal; he enters the regular season six for six on field goals.

Some starters, such as Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker III, remained on the sideline for preseason.

The finale game was a stage for rookies and free agents to make an impression and possibly make the team, before cuts on Tuesday.

Cleveland landed a touchdown in the third quarter, but Seahawks rookie George Holani quickly responded with a touchdown of his own – his second of the preseason.

Wide receiver Dee Eskridge wowed crowds and likely coaches with a 79-yard punt return touchdown. The Seahawks led 24-10 at halftime.

Cleveland comes up short for a third time

Dustin Hopkins got the Browns on the board with a first-quarter field goal. Minutes later, Cleveland’s rookie wide receiver Jamari Thrash caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Despite touchdowns from James Proche II and Michael Woods II in the second half, the Browns came up short for a third loss in preseason.
