SEATTLE — The Seattle Kraken face off against the St. Louis Blues in their 2024-25 season opener on Tuesday.

The game is taking place at 1:30 p.m. at home at Climate Pledge Arena.

It will be broadcast on ESPN.

What to expect from the Kraken

The Seattle Kraken begin their second chapter as a franchise after an offseason of significant change.

Dan Bylsma takes over as head coach, replacing Dave Hakstol. Bylsma hasn't coached in the NHL since the 2016-17 season but comes to Seattle after two highly successful seasons running the Kraken's AHL franchise in Coachella Valley.

Seattle spent big in free agency signing center Chandler Stephenson and defenseman Brandon Montour fresh off winning the Stanley Cup with Florida. Montour should be an immediate boost on the blue line and former first-round pick Shane Wright has a chance to become a regular in the lineup after a strong season playing for Bylsma at Coachella Valley in the AHL.

What to expect from the Blues

The St. Louis Blues are hoping to get back into the playoffs after missing out the past two seasons.

General manager Doug Armstrong brought in a handful of new players by trade, free agency and even offer sheets to bolster his team's depth. Those players should help, but it will be up to the core of Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich, Colton Parayko, captain Brayden Schenn and goaltender Jordan Binnington to ensure St. Louis is contending in the deep Central Division.

Defenseman Torey Krug will miss the entire season after undergoing ankle surgery.
