SEATTLE — The Seattle Kraken have named the organization's second-ever captain as the 2024-25 season gets underway.
Jordan Eberle, one of just 10 players remaining on the roster from the inaugural team in 2021, will wear the capital C across his sweater this season.
The Kraken was the only team in the National Hockey League (NHL) that had yet to name a captain prior to Tuesday's announcement. The unveil came as players were being introduced at the team's season and home opener against the St. Louis Blues at Climate Pledge Arena.
“Jordan's been a leader for our franchise since day one," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis in a release. "He has the full respect of his teammates and is a tremendous role model for our younger players. Jordan's everything you'd want in a captain."
Eberle has played in over 1,000 NHL games in his career and has racked up 299 goals and 403 assists since being drafted back in 2008. Eberle was the first All-Star in Kraken history and is second in franchise history in goals, assists and points.
The Kraken has four alternate captains in addition to Eberle: Adam Larsson, Jaden Schwartz, Yanni Gourde and Matty Beniers.
The first captain in franchise history was Mark Giordano, who was traded midway through his first season in Seattle.
After Tuesday's season opener, the Kraken's next game will be Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Minnesota Wild. Fans can watch the game live on KONG, with puck drop scheduled for 5 p.m.
