SEATTLE — On October 12th in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on a Saturday night, Jordan Eberle scored the 300th goal of his career.
"I've played a long time in this league, things go by pretty quickly, you get things like that, you kind of reflect a little bit, I've been fortunate to play quite a few line mates over the years, hopefully just continue scoring," Eberle said.
Eberle began his NHL career in 2010 with Edmonton. He spent 7 seasons with the Oilers before landing with the Islanders.
Now, in his 15th season, Eberle is playing some of the best hockey of his career.
"I still have a massive passion for the game, I love playing, I think as you get older, your drive to win goes up. I think as you get older, you maintain the speed, I think one thing, you get smarter, and just try to get better," Eberle said.
Eberle loves scoring goals, but being named the team captain has been extra special for him.
"It's a massive honor to be a captain in this league, it means a lot, when they told me it was going to happen, I was kind of speechless, I've played under a lot of good leaders, proud moment and I hopefully want lead this team to the playoffs," Eberle said.
Eberle said one of the keys to being a captain, is keeping it real.
"The biggest thing is, for me, is try to be myself, I don't think anything really changes, I try to lead in the way I work, the way I prepare for games, and the way I perform on the ice, so all of that, continue to do all that and continue to push it up a level," Eberle said.
