PARIS, France — After one of the best rounds of the day, a former University of Washington Husky is right in the thick of contention in the men's golf competition at the Paris Olympics.
C.T. Pan turned pro in 2015 after competing for UW, and surged into a tie for fifth with a second-round 65 at Le Golf National. Pan is just behind some of the biggest names in professional golf, including major winners Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama and Jon Rahm. Pan is three shots back of the lead at -8 under par.
The strong second round pushed Pan 16 places up the leaderboard on Friday, with two rounds left before the medal winners are crowned.
Pan is one of three former Huskies in the men's golf field, along with Carl Yuan representing China and Nick Taylor representing Canada. Yuan is tied for 43rd after two rounds, while Taylor is tied for 46th.
After winning a bronze medal for Taiwan at the Tokyo Olympics, Pan is back in the hunt for another Olympic medal in Paris.
