LOS ANGELES — The torch has officially been passed and the United States has begun in earnest to prepare for the country's first chance to host a Summer Olympics since it was held in Atlanta back in 1996.

The Paris Olympics delivered plenty of memorable moments over the past few weeks, giving Los Angeles a lot to live up to in 2028. LA has hosted the Olympic Games before, with its last chance coming in 1984.

Though there are still just under four years until the next Summer Olympics kick off in southern California, here are five of the most intriguing venues set to hold various competitions in 2028.

Intuit Dome

Both the men's and women's basketball competitions ended with a bang in Paris, as the host country France played the United States in both gold medal games. When the U.S. hosts in four years, they will be playing in an arena that has not hosted a basketball game as of Sunday's closing ceremony.

The Intuit Dome is the new home of the Los Angeles Clippers and is the latest major project spearheaded by team owner and former Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer. The venue is scheduled to open formally on Aug. 15, 2024 with a Bruno Mars concert and the Clippers will play home games there during the 2024-25 NBA season.

LA Memorial Coliseum

One of the oldest sports venues on the West Coast, the Coliseum was used for both the 1932 and 1984 Olympics hosted in Los Angeles. Per the LA 2028 website, it will host both the Opening Ceremony and the Track and Field competition.

Riviera Country Club

One of the most exclusive country clubs in the country will be the site of the men's and women's golf competition in 2028. The site of the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational, Riviera is a picturesque course surrounded by the prestigious Pacific Palisades area.

Devon Park

Though Los Angeles has ample facilities for just about every Olympic event, the softball competition at the 2028 Olympic Games will be held a 19-hour drive east in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Devon Park is the premier U.S. softball facility and hosts the College World Series for the sport annually.

Per the LA 2028 website, the canoe slalom events at the 2028 Games will also be held in Oklahoma City, which already has a facility built and where the Olympic Trials for the event were held in 2024.

SoFi Stadium

Though it already has hosted a Super Bowl, the LA 2028 Olympics have even more ambitious plans for the home of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. All of the swimming competition will be held in the stadium after a temporary pool is built inside the cavernous venue. The website notes that the plan is pending approval by the city, but it would easily be the largest swimming venue in Olympic history.
