PARIS, France — Suni Lee was a huge part of the U.S. winning a gold medal in the team gymnastics competition and also won a bronze in the all-around. For someone who wasn't even sure she'd ever be able to compete after some serious medical issues, Lee feels extra pride for her first individual medal in Paris.
"It's absolutely incredible, the team gold has meant so much to all of us because this was our redemption tour as we call it because of last Olympics," Lee told KING 5's Chris Egan in Paris. "My bronze medal means absolutely the world to me, I think even more than my gold medal just because last time I didn't really have it in mind that I could potentially win the gold, so here I am with my bronze medal not even thinking that I could make it onto the podium."
Lee dealt with kidney issues after the Tokyo Olympics which caused her to be out of the sport for months.
She now has two medals under her belt just in this Olympics and has multiple other opportunities in the uneven bars and the balance beam.
The uneven bars competition will be on Sunday, Aug. 4 and the balance beam individual will be on Aug. 5.
