PARIS, France — On the final day of Paris Olympics competition, Team USA's women's basketball team will aim to win its eighth consecutive gold medal.
After cruising to a win over Australia on Friday morning, Team USA will face France in the gold medal game on Aug. 11 at 6:30 a.m. PT. The game will air live on KING 5.
Australia, a team featuring two current Seattle Storm players and franchise icon Lauren Jackson, will play in the bronze medal game beginning at 2:30 a.m. PT against Belgium. Sami Whitcomb had 5 points and Ezi Magbegor had 2 points in the loss to the U.S.
Team USA, which also features Storm star Jewell Loyd, has not lost a single game in Olympic competition since 1992. The American team was led by Breanna Stewart's 16 points in Friday's semifinal. Loyd played 11 minutes and scored 3 points in the semifinal victory.
The U.S. beat host Japan 90-75 in the Tokyo Olympics gold medal game, with Brittney Griner leading the way by putting up 30 points while former Storm star Stewart grabbed 14 rebounds.
Both the men's and women's basketball competitions at the Paris Olympics will end in a matchup between the U.S. and the 2024 Olympic hosts.
The women's gold medal game will be played at Bercy Arena.
