Pint-sized star prepares for football season

Mary Lee got to do some football training with the help of an adorable, pint-sized coach.
Dash is the son of former New Orleans Saints Super Bowl champ and Seattle native Reggie Jones.

He's only 4-years-old, but Dash Jones is doing drills like a pro. With his fast footwork, you may not be too surprised to learn his dad is former New Orleans Saints Super Bowl champ and Seattle native Reggie Jones.

"I named him Dash," said Reggie Jones. "It's a big time name and he lives up to it. He thinks he's a superhero. He's all in!"

Dash said his favorite sport to play is football.

"Because my dad used to play for the Saints and I want to juke people and I want to show people how filthy I am."

"I want him to surpass my footsteps," said Reggie Jones. "Anything I've done. I want him to do way more. I want this guy to be amazing at what he does whether in sports or school. I want him to be the best he can possibly be."

We enlisted Garfield High Head Football Coach and the National Football Foundation's Coach of the Year Derek Sparks to train both of us. Derek knew I might need a little extra help on the field.

"Mary Lee, don't be afraid," said Sparks. "We have kids coming in as freshman who have never even played the game, so we have to start from the ground up. So we have to teach them the basics and we'll do that with you today."

A fun time on the field, even if I did get crushed by a 4-year-old. But then again, Dash Jones isn't just any 4-year-old.

Reggie and Dash are very busy this summer. Dash comes with Reggie to the many NFL youth football camps Reggie helps coach for his NFL friends across the country. Dash was also right there with Reggie at his own Showtime for Stars Camp in Kent earlier this summer. During the school year, Dash and Reggie regularly visit schools to motivate students here in western Washington and to give back to our community.
