15 year old Madison Egan from Puyallup, Washington had a freshman season to remember. She became the first ever from Rogers High School to earn a varsity letter in three sports and go to state in all three of those sports as a freshman.
Madison, who is coming off a busy summer where she played in 11 USTA tournaments and won 4 champs USTA titles, is now gearing up for her sophomore season at Rogers High School and will once again try and compete in three sports. “I love playing tennis and the competitive aspect of it, getting on the court and trying to mentally battle my opponent” says Madison. "She is a great player that is just getting better and better every time she hits the court," says Sprinker Tennis Professional Eric Drew. Drew who played at the University of Washington and helps train Madison says, "She is an incredible athlete with a bright future in tennis."
While her love for tennis keeps her on the court year round, as a freshman Madison was also the #1 runner on the cross country team and was named to the All-SPSL first team. Madison took 24th at the West Central District championships and placed 84th at the WIAA State Championships, and was the 10th freshman to finish. “Cross Country is fun because its simply whoever trained the hardest during the season will win, its just about who can run the fastest on race day,” says Madison.
While she loves running and playing tennis, she has also played basketball since she was young and made the varsity team at Rogers High School. “I love the team aspect of basketball, we are a big family and the girls are truly the sisters I’ve never had, you can rely on them where ever and whenever,” says Madison. "I also love my coaches so much, they are great role models," says Madison. “Madison Egan is one of those rare athletes that at a very young age has the fundamental skill set and maturity of a seasoned veteran. Her determination and mental toughness is unparalleled and allows her and her team to compete at a high level. Playing multiple sports, both team and individual, is what makes Mads the championship athlete she is today. She is an amazing athlete, with an incredible future and she is an even better person off the court, “ says Rogers Rams head basketball coach Amy Looker.
During the spring Madison played tennis for Rogers and was the number one player on the team and was voted as the MVP of the SPSL tennis conference after going undefeated during the regular season. Madison placed 2nd in districts and made the state tournament as a freshman.
If three trips to State as a freshman wasn’t enough, Madison also earned a 3.98 GPA and was the ASB treasurer at Ballou Junior High.
Madison is currently ranked 28th in the Northwest in 16 champs and while she loves to play tennis year round, she loves to compete and play other sports which she says make her a better all-around athlete, “Tennis is my favorite sport, but I love doing cross country and playing basketball because it keeps a balance in my life and I’m surrounded by other athletes 24/7 which I love.”
