SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders FC unveiled a new retro kit marking their 50th anniversary, kicking off a season-long celebration of the club's history.
The Anniversary Kit's design is a throwback to the 70s and 80s and features colors harkening back to the club's original color palette. The vintage shades of the club's Rave Green and Pacific Blue and the introduction of a new color, Heritage Aqua, coincide with the club's brand evolution announced last year.
The jersey's stripe pattern also calls back to the classic NASL pinstriped jerseys of the 1983 season with neck and sleeve edges to complete its retro look.
Last year, the club unveiled its next brand evolution which included a new crest, featuring the Space Needle and its founding date, as well as reintroducing a wave element in its wordmark and new tertiary marks that include an orca and carnation.
“Celebrating our 50th anniversary – a milestone reflecting decades of determination and perseverance – while launching our refreshed brand identity – built to reflect the next 50 years for the franchise – along with a new state-of-the-art home in Renton creates a generational moment for the club,” said Sounders FC President of Business Operations Hugh Weber. “The 2024 campaign will be a singularly unique time to celebrate with longtime supporters while engaging new fans to the sport and club.”
The new kit was unveiled as a launching point for the club's season-long 50th anniversary celebration. The celebration is set to include commemoration opportunities all season long featuring current players, player alumni, coaches and fans. The celebration will also include anniversary-themed giveaways at select matches, special events, and its official 50th Anniversary Celebration Match on June 15.
The Sounders' home opener is on March 2.
