SEATTLE — The Seattle Storm's second-round draft pick in 2024, who saw very limited playing time in her rookie season, appears to have suffered a significant knee injury during a game in Europe.
Nika Mühl was playing for Beşiktaş in a EuroLeague game when she landed awkwardly and collapsed to the court, grasping her left knee. Many Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) players compete overseas during the American league's offseason to earn additional income. Although the WNBA playoffs are ongoing, the Storm were eliminated in the first round by the Las Vegas Aces.
The No. 14 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Mühl played in just 16 games for the Storm after a stellar career for collegiate powerhouse University of Connecticut.
Mühl eventually was taken off the court on a board, and no immediate information was available on the extent of the injury. The Storm posted "Get well soon, Nika!" on X but otherwise have not addressed the injury.
Originally born in Croatia, Mühl missed the first few preseason games of her WNBA career while she worked to get a professional visa approved to play professionally in the U.S.
It remains to be seen how long Mühl will be sidelined, but this appears to be yet another setback early in the career of the young guard.
