NASA released a breathtaking image Friday showing a pair of galaxies on a collision course, 450 million light years from Earth.
In the image above, the top galaxy that is being seen from the side is VV 340 North and the other spiral galaxy is VV 340 South. Data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and optical data from the Hubble Space Telescope were used to come up with this image.
It will take millions of years for these galaxies to merge into one.
A similar phenomenon will happen with our own Milky Way Galaxy and the neighboring Andromeda galaxy, but astronomers say that s billions of years away.
