A new review panel will take a close look at costs at the new International Arrivals Facility (IAF) at Sea-Tac Airport.
Four experts will review costs and schedules for the IAF then report directly back to the Port of Seattle Commission. The review will also look at the performance of the contractor and the staff management of the project.
The Seattle Times reports the cost swelled another $40 million since last August and now stands at $830 million. That's $146 million over the original projection -- a 21 percent increase so far.
The Port points out the money comes from airline revenue and user fees. No tax money is involved.
The project is also five months behind schedule, the Times reports. It will most likely not open until February 2020.
The IAF is designed to process approximately two million passengers a year once it opens. "It's worth the extra review to give the public confidence that this is the best possible facility at the best possible price," said Commissioner Peter Steinbrueck in a news release.
The panel has 60 days to complete the review.
