FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- A Washington state company is developing LED technology that it says will take workplace lighting out of the dark ages.
PLANLED uses its Federal Way offices as a showroom to convince major corporations, sports teams and schools to accept the science behind light and convert their lighting systems.
Boeing, the Mariners, and Renton Schools are just a few of their customers. Boeing has switched out entire assembly buildings and are expected to save money and increase the safety and health of workers.
The Mariners use an LED system that provides high energy blue tinted lighting in its club house before games that switches to warmer, relaxing light when the game is over.
Other sports teams are visiting the facility's stadium mock ups to see how LED can make their broadcast cameras take better pictures and help athletes see and react better.
The company incorporates recent scientific findings that show the natural blue tinted light we enjoy outdoors actually helps stimulate our minds and bodies, but most office buildings, schools and stadiums use light that is low on the blue spectrum and actually saps our energy and tells us to prepare to rest.
PLANLEDhas developed lighting formats that automatically adjust to enhance the moods of workers at the beginning of the day and help them relax toward the end.
CEO John Hwang said his lighting has helped improve the mood in senior housing facilities and even cured chronic headaches.
