SEATTLE - Governor Jay Inslee took a walk through on Seattle's most contaminated neighborhoods and said his new climate change report may help clear the air.
The Governor took a walk with residents and community activists on the hazy streets of South Park. Researchers have found some of the city's highest levels of polluted air in the South Park and nearby Georgetown neighborhoods.
Some studies found increased levels of asthma and shorter life spans in those areas which are surrounded by busy highways, airports, a working river and major truck and train routes.
Diesel emissions are proved to cause several health problems, especially in children.
Inslee said his Climate Change Task Force had just completed its report on ways to raise revenues while cutting carbon production in the state. The report mentioned a carbon tax and cap and trade programs as possibilities.
The Governor is expected to finalize an action plan and present it to the state legislature next session.
He said reducing Washington State's carbon output will help fight climate change and improve air quality in areas like South Park.
