Environmental activists blocked the entrance to Puget Sound Energy headquarters in Bellevue on Monday morning to protest a Tacoma liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.
Puget Sound Energy is building the $300 million fossil fuel facility at the Port of Tacoma.
Activists built a longhouse outside headquarters and held signs that read “Water is life” and “Keep it in the ground.”
Paul Wagner, who protested the plant, said the longhouse was built with solar panels and natural materials, representing a peaceful, clean future.
“The structure that PSE has put up on Puyallup’s estuary is not at peace with the children,” Wagner said.
Protesters claim the company has not consulted with the Puyallup Tribe and lack key permits to continue construction, including a supplemental environmental impact statement.
Supporters of the plant say it would create needed jobs in Tacoma.
