A group of spectators had a whale of a time when a group of Southern Resident orcas came swimming by Maury Island Saturday afternoon.
KING 5 viewer Ariel Yseth shared some incredible video of the J-pod swimming close to shore near Point Robinson. In the video, you can see several orcas swimming in a line, including what appears to be one of the newest J-pod calves born this summer.
Yseth said J-pod was so close to shore near Point Robinson “that the iPhone is sufficient” to capture the incredible sight instead of using a digital camera.
The Orca Network posted on Facebook Saturday morning saying it appeared J-pod had stayed around Puget Sound overnight. Soon after, people started commenting on the post sharing their Southern Resident orca sightings.
People reported seeing the orcas as far south as Dune Peninsula in Tacoma.
