The Hood Canal Bridge was reopened Wednesday afternoon after a six-hour closure due to a misaligned drawspan.

The DOT said the bridge drawspan was pushed out of alignment due to the confluence of high tides, a marine drawspan opening, and a "disengaged anchor cable" as part of a WSDOT construction project to replace anchor cables.

DOT said the drawspan was about seven feet out of alignment with the bridge.

A tug maneuvered the drawspan back into alignment. DOT said the work crews had to wait for slack tide before moving the drawspan.

WSDOT thanked motorists for their patience during the unplanned, extended bridge closure.

WSDOT said construction to replace some of the bridge's anchor cables will continue over the next several months. For the next few days, WSDOT asked mariners to request drawspan openings only during slack tides.
