2 Bellevue officers injured in crash on I-405

Two Bellevue police officers were thrown from their motorcycles after colliding into each other on I-405 early Thursday morning.

Two Bellevue police officers were injured in a crash that shutdown all northbound lanes of I-405 south of I-90 on Thursday morning. All lanes opened to traffic just before 7 a.m.

Trooper Rick Johnson with the Washington State Patrol said the crash happened around 4:45 a.m. and involved two motorcycle officers escorting a “portable structure” on a semi-truck. Johnson said the initial report indicated the crash involved a crane.

One of the officers collided with the other when they got on I-405 according to Johnson. Both were thrown off their motorcycles during the crash.

The officers were transported to an area hospital and were expected to be OK.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said there was at least a six-mile backup from I-90 to the Renton S-Curves around 7 a.m.

Backups extended to local roads like Lake Washington Boulevard and Coal Creek Parkway SE, WSDOT said.
