Four people were taken to the hospital after a serious five-car crash on northbound Interstate 5 in Lynnwood Thursday morning.
All lanes were cleared just after 8:30 a.m.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) first reported the crash just south of 44th Ave W. around 3:30 a.m. The crash was blocking four left lanes of northbound I-5 just before 5 a.m., according to the WSDOT travel alerts website.
As of 7 a.m., the traffic backup was over a mile and stretched past the 220th St SW exit in Mountlake Terrace.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) said two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition. Two other people were taken to Swedish Medical Center with injuries.
WSP Trooper Rocky Oliphant said initial reports indicated the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was “driving erratically prior to the collision.”
The WSDOT is asking drivers to use alternate routes if possible and to expect delays in the area.
