SEATTLE — A man was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning after being struck by a car while crossing Interstate 5 on foot in Seattle.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) said the pedestrian's vehicle was disabled on the right shoulder near the Mercer Street exit of northbound I-5.
The man first crossed all lanes of I-5 on foot to the left side of the freeway, WSP said. The pedestrian then tried to again cross all lanes before they were struck by a vehicle.
The roadway was blocked for over four hours while WSP cleared the scene.
The victim was identified by WSP as Esteban Cortes, 22, of Marysville.
WSP told KING 5 that the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian was not impaired and will not face any charges.
