Elderly man, woman killed in SR 410 crash near Enumclaw

A 63-year-old woman could be charged with vehicular homicide.

ENUMCLAW, Wash. — A woman could face vehicular homicide charges after two people were killed in a crash along State Route 410 near Enumclaw on Sunday morning.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) said a 63-year-old woman was traveling along the westbound lanes of SR 410 just before 11:45 a.m. Authorities said the woman entered the eastbound lanes to pass multiple cars. When she tried to reenter the westbound lanes of the highway, the vehicle collided with another car, causing it to lose control. At that point, the second vehicle entered the eastbound lanes of SR 410 and was struck by a third vehicle.

A 72-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman in the second vehicle were killed in the crash, according to the WSP. Investigators said two other people were taken by helicopter to a Seattle area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person had moderate injuries, according to authorities.

Bystanders performed CPR on two of the people before first responders arrived, according to the Enumclaw Fire Department.

"We also want to send a special thank you to all the citizens that were involved in the heroic measures attempting to save the two victim’s lives," the department said. "It did not go unnoticed."

The woman in the first car could face charges of vehicular homicide, according to the WSP.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved, WSP said.

SR 410 between Twin Creek Bridge and Mud Mountain Dam Road was fully closed for over five hours while authorities investigated the deadly crash. SR 410 reopened just after 5:15 p.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

According to the WSP, two of the vehicles were found partially in a ditch and blocking the eastbound lanes of SR 410. The first vehicle was found resting down an embankment on the south side of the highway.
