All northbound lanes of SR 99 near East Marginal Way reopen after hours-long closure

Northbound SR 99 closed Tuesday evening and didn't reopen until early Wednesday morning.

SEATTLE — The northbound lanes of state Route 99 have reopened after being closed for around 12 hours due to a brush fire.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the fire was burning near the north end of the First Avenue Bridge and East Marginal Way.

Vehicles on the bridge were seen turning around at approximately 5 p.m. Oncoming traffic was diverted to the Michigan Street exit, according to WSDOT.

According to Seattle City Light, the brush fire ignited several RVs and multiple power poles in the area. At least two poles were snapped and a third was damaged and is currently leaning.

Energy was shut off within a half-mile radius while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
