TACOMA, Wash. — One person was killed after a driver, who was attempting to flee troopers, crashed into another vehicle on state Route 7 in Spanaway Saturday afternoon.
According to Washington State Patrol, the crash happened around 4 p.m. at milepost 48.07. WSP says all traffic is being diverted to 180th Street South.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, a trooper saw a driver in a Lexus sedan speeding and when they attempted to pull the driver over, he sped away. The suspect then crashed into a Ford truck traveling in the northbound lanes.
A passenger in the suspect's car died at the scene. The extent of the injuries to the Ford truck driver is unknown.
The suspect driver was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw and will be booked for second-degree murder, according to Pierce County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Darren Moss.
There is no estimated time for the roadway to be reopened.
